ROCKPORT TRUSTEES SANCTUARY ROOF UPDATE
Twin Creek Roofing completed the replacement of the roof on the sanctuary structure on Sept. 5th. Work was monitored and Trustees were given frequent updates on the progress and on minor issues that came up. They also installed powered roof ventilators in the roof above the office/parlor/choir room section of the building and in the roof over the classrooms in the Christian Education/Abilities First/Cerebral Pasley wing. The powered ventilators will still need to be connected to electrical power and tested.
The integrity of the sanctuary roof is solid. While the roof was exposed, a few gaps were seen as a result of some warping/twisting of the ceiling/roof timbers. There was minimal rot on a couple timbers, but otherwise they are solid. It was apparent that some previous repair work was done, in that timbers had been repaired/replaced. Installing the OSB sheathing should address the issues with the slight shifting. Mervin Mast from Twin Creeks feels that the timbers will no longer shift or warp as they done "drying out" from their original installation, and the sheathing plus the synthetic felt plus new roofing should keep it all very dry. A custom drip edge was installed on both rake ends of the roof to channel rainwater to the eave gutters.
The roof on the shed was also replaced.
They will be back the week of September 15th to replace the chapel gutter, install new gutter in a couple other locations, and replace the gutter on the shed as it got mangled in the process of removing it.
