ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

VETERANS DAY:
As we approach Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11th, we will honor the brave men and women who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice and steadfast devotion on Sunday, Nov. 8th during worship. We give thanks to God for their selfless service and pray for peace in our world.  May we live each day in gratitude for the freedoms they have helped preserve.  The church office will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11th for Veterans Day and Thursday Nov. 12th for a vacation day!

DON’T FORGET YOUR PLEDGE!
As we approach the end of the year, don’t forget your commitment to Rockport. If you are unsure of where you are with your pledge, please call the church office. Thank you, The Finance Committee

This year, our Stewardship Campaign, “What’s in Your Hand?” invites us to reflect on the many gifts God has entrusted to us-, our time, talents, treasures, prayers, and presence.  Throughout this three-week sermon series beginning Nov. 8th, we will explore what it means to recognize our gifts, use them faithfully, place them in God’s hands, and live with open hearts and generous spirits.  Be looking for a Stewardship letter and commitment card for 2027. COMMITMENT SUNDAY WILL BE NOVEMBER 22, 2026 DURING WORSHIP FOLLOWED BY A PANCAKE BREAKFAST IN WESLEY HALL! Bring your family and be part of this special day as we celebrate God’s faithfulness and our shared ministry!

JOURNEY THROUGH THE GOSPEL OF LUKE:  Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm

Join us for an inspiring Bible study as we journey through the Gospel of Luke, exploring the life, teachings, compassion, and ministry of Jesus Christ.

Through thoughtful teaching, meaningful discussion, and spiritual reflection, we will discover how Luke’s Gospel speaks to our lives and calls us to live out our faith with love, mercy, and justice.

All are welcome! Whether you are new to Bible study or have studied Scripture for years, come ready to learn, grow, and deepen your relationship with God.  Bring your Bible, your questions, and an open heart!

BOOK CLUB:
Join us on November 11th, 6:00pm in the church parlor, for book club.  “Theo of Golden” is a heartwarming, character-driven novel by Allen Levi about an elderly stranger who transforms a small Southern town through quiet, anonymous acts of kindness.  The main message of Allen Levi’s novel “Theo of Golden” is that true goodness requires love, and that intentional acts of kindness can transform a broken world one person at a time.  Hope to see everyone on November 11th for food, fun, fellowship, and discussion.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE FORMATION:
We are looking for people who are interested in forming and becoming part of a membership/welcoming committee.  This committee will assist with welcoming visitors, assisting the pastor with follow up with visitors and planning special new member events.  If you feel like this fits you, please call the front office and Pastor Tennille will plan a meeting to discuss next steps of implementation.

SPRING ARTS PROJECT:
We are looking for those interested in planning an Easter Egg Hunt, springtime crafts and games for our community to introduce our church to new people in the community and beyond.  Special Saturday crafts, games and ice cream would go for three weeks with a final “art show” on a Sunday morning.  Anyone interested in helping with plans for next spring, please let Sara in the office know.

DONUTS AND COFFEE HOUR:
Please consider hosting donuts and coffee before 9:30am worship and/or after worship coffee hour.  Fellowship is an important part of the life of the church and why not have food as well! Sign-up sheet is posted on the chapel hallway bulletin board.

Older Doesn't Mean Over

Healthy Bodies. Faithful Lives. Vital Churches.
Our bodies change as we age. So do our churches. But aging isn't the same thing as dying, and health isn't the same thing as youth. What does it mean to age well, both as individuals and as the Body of Christ?

This January, the Office of Discipleship Ministries and the Office of Leadership Wellness & Renewal invite you to a five-week Zoom experience built around a shared conviction: Age alone does not determine our health, our value, our calling, or what's possible for us as individuals or congregations.

This is an intentional effort to explore the connections between the human body and the Body of Christ. As we learn how our physical bodies can remain healthy, adapt, and grow stronger with age, we'll explore how those same lessons might help us grow as disciples and cultivate healthier, more vital congregations.

Too often, we approach aging, particularly in congregational life, primarily through the lens of decline, limitations, and what we can no longer do. We want to challenge that mindset and invite people to consider the possibilities that remain in the season they're actually in.

Using five anchors for healthy living, Eat Real Food, Move Your Body, Get Adequate Sleep, Manage Your Stress, and Stay Relationally Connected, we'll explore practical ways to care for our bodies as we age while considering what these practices can teach us about discipleship and congregational life.

Each week will combine practical health education, conversations about spiritual growth, and fresh perspectives on congregational vitality. You'll leave with practical ideas for caring for your health, new possibilities for discipleship and ministry, and one next faithful step to put into practice during Lent.

Who Should Attend?
Clergy and laity of all ages are welcome. Whether you're interested in aging well, deepening your discipleship, or helping an aging congregation discover new possibilities, this experience is for you.

Come on your own or bring others from your church.

When: Thursdays, January 7 through February 4, 2027, 10:00–11:30 a.m.
Where: Online via Zoom

The Grace of Remembering: A Reflection for All Saints Sunday

All Saints Sunday has become one of the most meaningful days in the Christian calendar for me.

I grew up in a Korean family shaped by Confucian traditions of honoring our ancestors. At certain times of the year, the family gathered, food was prepared with care and those who had gone before us were remembered. We remembered names, stories, sacrifices and the roots from which our family had grown.

When I became a Christian when I was 16 years old, I was taught that following Jesus meant refusing to participate in those ancestral rites. I did so with conviction. At the time, I believed that such refusal was a necessary expression of Christian faithfulness. It also created pain and tension within my family.

Years later, All Saints Sunday brought an unexpected theological healing to that memory.

I watched the church light candles and speak the names of those who had died. We remembered parents and grandparents, pastors and teachers, friends and faithful members of the church. We gave thanks for their lives and entrusted them to the mercy of God. Something within me was restored.

The church, I realized, also knows how to remember.

Christian faith does not require us to cut ourselves off from those who came before us. Rather, it teaches us how to remember them within the grace of God.
