ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT TO VISIT ROCKPORT THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 22ND:

Reverend Bruce Hitchcock, the new North Coast District Superintendent, will preach at Rockport on Sunday, January 22nd. We are overjoyed that Rev. Hitchcock will be joining Pastor Don for 10am worship and then fellowship time following worship. Rev. Hitchcock's sermon will be based upon Scripture from Matthew 4:12-23, the beginning of Jesus's ministry and the nature of Jesus's ministry.

As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea--for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. --Matthew 4:12-23

Rev. Bruce Hitchcock, ordained a Deacon in 1987 and an Elder in 1989, has served churches across the State of Ohio during his ministry. He served as superintendent of the Ohio Valley District from 2018-2022 before being appointed to serve as superintendent of the North Coast District.

While earning a Bachelor's degree from Malone College, he also was pastor of Pleasant Grove UMC in Carroll County. He then served State Road UMC in Germantown in the West Ohio Conference while attending United Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Divinity.

Upon graduation, Hitchcock served East Rochester Bayard UMC (1989-1993), East Sparta UMC (1993-1996), and Huron UMC (1996-2002) before accepting the position at the Urban Mission for nine years. From 2011 to 2018, Hitchcock served Geneva UMC (Western Reserve District).

He and wife Melissa are the parents of two sons and a daughter.

Join us Sunday, January 22nd and extend to Rev. Hitchcock the Rockport Spirit of Jesus!

HEALTHY EATING COOKING DEMO & DINNER CLUB:

Join us on Monday, Jan. 23rd at 5:30pm in the Wesley Hall kitchen for our next cooking demo and meal.  Come learn how to make healthy Tex-Mex casserole and Hippie Dippie Salad.  Bill Rouse and Lisa Kay will be our resident chefs. Cost is $10 payable upon arrival.  Please sign-up on the bulletin board or call the church office to register.
“Whether you eat, drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31

YEAR-END GIVING STATEMENTS:
If you would like a year-end giving statement, please call, 440-331-9433, or email office@rockportumc.org, the church office.  Thanks, Sara Chapman, Financial Secretary

MEN’S GROUP:
On Thursday, February 9th at 6:30pm the men will gather for a potluck dinner. Rev. Dan Bryant will make a presentation on United Methodist Church, organization and structure. His experience as a district superintendent and delegate to General Conference offers us an opportunity to learn the inner workings of our denomination. In addition, he will share information and resources to better understand some of the reasons a breakaway denomination, called the Global Methodist Church, formed in May, 2022, and how The United Methodist Church has responded. Everyone is invited to come and hear Dan’s presentation. Come and enjoy this special time together!

BOOK CLUB:
Our next book discussion will be on Wednesday, January 25 @ 7:00pm.  We will be meeting at Bonnie’s house, corner of Story and Carol.  The book we will be reading is “Call Your Daughter Home” by Deb Spera. This book is “a bold and mesmerizing debut set in a time and place lost to history; a world rescued now by Deb Spera, a talented storyteller.  With lush language, Spera illuminates a powerful story of women, of motherhood and survival.” Hope to see everyone in January for fun, fellowship and discussion.
