A 200TH ANNIVERSARY THANK YOU NOTE:

We would like to thank the whole congregation for your wonderful support of our 200th Anniversary celebrations. We cannot begin to name everyone who helped us but we do want to give special recognition to Dick Popeney who, through his estate, gifted Rockport a sizable donation and Church Council designating funds for the Anniversary celebrations. We also appreciate the historical information compiled by our church historian, Scott Holchin, the special video made by Dennis O’Neil (which can be viewed on the home page of the church website), flowers by Stella Thomas and David Stephan, and special 200th Anniversary cookies by Gail and David Stephan. Our church staff of Kira, Susan and Don were all very helpful with anything that we asked of them. We were thrilled to have prior pastors, Reverends Amy Shaw and Laurie Bruce, and staff come home and are especially thankful for Reverends Bill McFadden, Don Shank, David Wilcox, Barb Davis and Dan Bryant who all agreed to preach or help out in some special way. It was so nice to see so many prior members attend and hear their memories of their time at our church.

Starting with a circuit rider preacher in 1822, Rockport has continued to be a beacon of faith on the west side of Cleveland for two centuries. How wonderful it was to see that our original church buildings built across the street are still being used to serve our local community by providing support to those recovering from various addictions.

Of course, worshipping in our beautiful outdoor and indoor sanctuaries is always a blessing that we never want to take for granted and we appreciate the members who preceded us and had the vision to purchase and build such a wonderful facility. Thanks to all our prior members who left us with a beautiful legacy that we hope continues for the next 200 years.

A sincere thank you for your support of not one, not two, but three celebrations of Rockport United Methodist Church serving the community for 200 years.

Your 200th Celebration Co-chairs Sara Chapman, Lisa Kay and Diana Leitch

SAVE THE DATE:

BOOK CLUB:
Please join us on Monday, October 10th at 7:00pm at Juanita Pariano’s house for fellowship and discussion.  Bring a dessert or appetizer to share.  The book we will be reading is Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. This book is about Elizabeth Zott, a one-of-a-kind scientist in 1960’s California whose career takes a detour when she becomes the unlikely star of a beloved TV cooking show. What is this? Elizabeth has dealt with it all. Plenty of misogyny and people doubting her skills. Hope to see you all on Oct. 10th for food, fellowship and discussion!
