ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

CHARGE CONFERENCE:
On Saturday, November 5th at 2:00pm at UMC of Berea, 170 Seminary St., Berea, OH. 44017, Rockport and other area churches will gather for Charge Conference.  Please let the church office know if you would like to be a Lay member to Annual Conference or a District At-Large Member for the 2024 Annual Conference so we can put it on the ballot for voting.  Also, please let us know if you will be attending so we make sure we have adequate copies of paperwork for everyone.

KIDS & YOUTH FALL & ADVENT MINI MISSION PROJECT:
We are collecting hats, gloves, and scarves to go for the Take What You Need Cabinet all season, AS WELL AS, the Sister’s Haven Mission, in Cleveland, who is also pairing with Rocky River UMC.  Please be watching our Mini Mission Schedule each month!

MEN’S GROUP:
The Rockport Men's Group will meet at the church on Thursday, November 10th at 6:30 pm for a potluck dinner.  Dennis O’Neil will talk about his work on FEMA recovery this summer. This will be a very informative presentation. Come and enjoy this special time together!

SAVE THE DATE:
On November 12th we will have a spaghetti dinner from 4-8:00pm.  Volunteers are needed for food prep, servers, clean-up, bakers and drivers for Rockport's homebound. If you would like to volunteer to help in anyway, please call or email the church office or Lisa Kay. Dine-in or carry out meals, quarts, and Vegan Lentil Masala soup will be available. Proceeds from this event will go towards Outreach Mission projects.

BOOK CLUB:
Please join us on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 7:00pm in the church parlor for fellowship and discussion.  Bring a dessert or appetizer to share.  The book we will be reading is Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. “This profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.” These struggles are relatable for everyone. Hope to see you all on Nov. 16th for food, fellowship and discussion!

BIBLE STUDY:
Open Invitation - All are invited - Bible Study Class!  Christianity and Comparative World Religions.  In-Person, Tuesdays from 7 pm - 8 pm. We are so excited and thank God for this opportunity! God bless. Please e-mail Sara Chapman office@rockportumc.org or call 440-331-9433 if you would like transportation.
And here is the schedule for the remainder of the Bible Study

  2. October 25, Guest Speaker, Rabi Enid C. Lader and Attorney Mark Felber, Beth-Israel, The West Temple, Cleveland.

For the guest speakers we will have a time to meet and greet and have some food. Then we will introduce ourselves and say one thing we know or want to know about their religion – then the speaker can talk! All are welcome and let us be certain to show some great Christian Hospitality!

LILA S. FAULKS ( December 10, 1930 - October 02, 2022 )

Lila S. Faulks passed away after a beautiful life at the age of 91.  Her lifelong love was the late James L. Faulks, her husband of 61 years. Lila nurtured an extended and loving family and was the devoted mother of Lynne Tsangeos (Michael), Debbie Andrews (John) and Craig Faulks (Pamela). She was a cherished grandmother to Kara and Nicole Tsangeos; Ryan (Emily), Kevin and Abby Andrews and Emily, Anna and William Faulks.  Later in life her greatest joy came from her great grandchildren Evelyn, Lila and Liv Andrews. She was the loving daughter to the late Lila and Richard Stevens II and the loving brother of Richard Stevens III.

Lila grew up in Youngstown, Ohio where she first met many lifelong friends. Besides her family, her deep, sustained friendships made for a joyful life.  Many more of these friendships developed as a Chi Omega at Ohio University, where she also met Jim.  With Jim, she raised her children in Rocky River, Ohio, a community she loved and served. She and Jim then treasured their home and life in Vero Beach, Florida. A lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, she was fortunate enough to live in the glory days. She enjoyed collecting and being an antique dealer her entire life, but cherished her family and friends most of all.

A date of a celebration of Lila’s life will be announced in the future. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Rockport United Methodist Church, 3301 Wooster Road, Rocky River, Ohio 44116.
