PASTOR’S ADVENT STUDY VIA ZOOM: WHEN GOD INTERRUPTS OUR PLANS TO HEAL THE WORLD -
This Advent, we will journey together through a powerful new series titled “A Season of Holy Disruption.” Advent is often thought of as a quiet, peaceful countdown to Christmas, but the Scriptures tell a different story. When God steps into the world, things shift. Expectations are challenged. Hearts are awakened. Lives are transformed. Advent is the season when God’s interruptions become holy invitations.
Throughout these four weeks, we will explore how God’s hope, peace, joy, and love break into our lives; not to unsettle us for the sake of chaos, but to guide us toward healing, rebuilding, and renewed purpose. From the prophets who cried out for justice, to John the Baptist preparing the way, to Mary’s bold song of joy, and finally to Christ’s humble arrival in Bethlehem, Advent reminds us that God often works through disruption to bring restoration.
Please join us Thursday evenings, 12/4, 12/11 and 12/18 by zoom at 6:30 EST by Zoom.  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88531948935

ROCKPORT’S CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE:
Rockport is again asking for your support of our Christmas Giving Tree for the benefit of the children and adults of Ohio Guidestone.  Until mid- December, we will be collecting unwrapped giftsfor their Holiday Shop.  Please pick an ornament off our Christmas tree and purchase a gift for that age individual.  Ideas for gifts can be found on the Ohio Guidestone flyer on our bulletin board.  The Holiday Shop provides an opportunity for Guidestone’s counselors to choose Christmas presents for their clients.  The staff at Guidestone told me that many of the children in their care would not get a single Christmas gift if not for donations from corporations and churches such as Rockport UMC.
Ohio Guidestone offers services for mental health, substance use, family care, foster care, juvenile justice, residential treatment, home-based counseling, job training and more. Their main campus is in Berea, but they have locations across Ohio.  Thanks again for your support.  Diana Leitch

CLEVELAND KIDS’ BOOK BANK MISSION OPPORTUNITY:
On Saturday, December 6th from 9:30-11:30am the Rockport Book Club has decided to do this mission for the holidays. You don’t have to be a part of the book club, all are welcome!  We can do lunch afterwards if you are interested. Also, North Olmsted UMC will be going on Tuesday, November 18, 1-3pm if that works better for you. The mission of the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank, 13913 West Parkway Rd., Cleveland 44135, is to foster literacy and a love of reading by distributing free books to children in collaboration with community partners.
The Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank is working to ensure all kids in Greater Cleveland have books to build their own home libraries.
A book in the hands of a child is a magical thing! Reading fuels imaginations, teaches empathy, supports academic achievement, and helps parents build bonds with their kids.  Sign-up sheet is posted.

DONUTS AND COFFEE HOUR:
Please consider hosting donuts and coffee before 9:30am worship and/or after worship coffee hour.  Fellowship is an important part of the life of the church and why not have food as well! Sign-up sheet is posted on the chapel hallway bulletin board.

TAKE-WHAT-YOU-NEED CABINET!
Now that school has begun again, we’re asking for help in shopping for the cabinet! We have a small crew of people who take turns shopping for the cabinet every so often, and we’d love to have your help! We have a cabinet fund, and you do not have to spend your own money, unless you’re donating items. We have a list of item suggestions available, and if you’re interested, please see Kira or call the office. Please make sure to turn in your receipts to the office to be reimbursed! Thank you

NORTHERN WATERS DISTRICT NEWS: www.eocumc.com/northernwaters

Sent on behalf of The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland, an EOCUMC Health & Well-Being Partner, to UMC churches and appointed pastors in Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, and Summit counties.

Hello,

I am writing to you as the new Executive Director of The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland. I want to share opportunities we have for your congregation to engage in our ministries, serving the most vulnerable people in our communities.

First, Giving Tuesday is less than two weeks away. Linked below are graphics you can include in your weekly email to your congregation or in the bulletin. If you donate online through the EOCUMC Advance Fund on Giving Tuesday (Dec. 2), the first $500 will be matched by The Board of Missions. This is to finance the boiler replacement which is warming the 15 international newcomers who live at the mission, 9 of whom are children.

Second, we would love to invite your congregation to take on one of our weekly Bread on Bridge community meals. Every Tuesday at 2PM about 50 low-income or unhoused neighbors come to eat, build community, and take home leftovers. You provide the meal and the volunteers to prepare, serve, and clean, while Nehemiah provides the kitchen, tableware, and coffee. Sign up here or contact me for more information.

Third, we have a sewing program developing at Nehemiah. We're hosting classes for schoolchildren to learn how to sew. We are accepting donations of sewing materials, fabric, and sewing machines. We are also looking for more volunteers with sewing experience who can help us run the classes.

Finally, I am available to come speak to your church about the rapidly evolving immigration situation in our country, how Nehemiah Mission is providing temporary emergency housing to immigrants, and what your congregation can do to help. I have four years of experience working with displaced people and grassroots immigrant rights organizations and I am getting my Masters in Forced Migration and Refugee Protection. We have no speaking fee, but would appreciate a portion of the offering going to support the mission's ministries.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or ideas regarding the mission and its ministries. We want to build deeper relationships with the nearby UMC churches. As Nehemiah said, "send me to the city"!

Thank you,

Graham Ball, Executive Director of The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland
