Lent 2022:
Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent is Wednesday, March 2nd. This year, we’ll be focusing on the theme "Gathered up in Jesus" this Lenten season.  Our Ash Wednesday service will be in-person and offered on-line via Facebook, YouTube and the Website, on March 2nd, 7pm. Make your own Ash kits for Ash Wednesday will again be available this year for pick up at the Church Office during office hours Monday-Thursday 8-2pm and Friday, 8-1pm from February 25th-March 2nd, or on Sunday, February 27th if you are not comfortable coming to in-person worship.  Kits contain pieces of palm branches that you can burn at home and instructions for how to make your own ashes and impose them when you join us for worship on Ash Wednesday.  Please make your ashes at least 2 hours before you intend to participate in worship (they will need time to cool before you can break up any bits that remain!)

Rockport’s 200th Anniversary Celebration – September 18, 2022
Join us to help celebrate Rockport’s 1822 – 2022, 200 years!  Please mark your calendar for Sunday, September 18th for a special worship service followed by a catered meal and fellowship with past ministers and prior members.  We will honor our church’s history and celebrate our continued mission going forward.  Help is needed in contacting our prior membership so if you have old members names, addresses, e-mails or phone numbers, please let Sara in the church office know.  We hope to make this a grand affair and it will only be such with everyone’s help!  If you have ideas for the celebration, please contact Lisa Kay 440-570-0992 or Diana Leitch 440-759-5980

USHERS/GREETERS:
If you are interested in greeting people when they walk in, handing out bulletins, passing out communion cups, putting offerings in the safe, and taking a head count, please call the church office or sign up on the bulletin board. Thank you.

COVID TASK FORCE UPDATE:
After the COVID task force met on Monday, February 21st and in light of the recent decline in COVID cases in Cuyahoga County and restrictions being lifted, the Rockport United Methodist Church has decided to remove the Masks are Strongly Encouraged signs.  We are allowing everyone to make their own decision, based on ones comfort level, of whether to wear a mask or not.  Please respect the choice of individuals in regards to masking.  We will reassess, as needed, if case numbers start to increase. Questions or concerns, please call the church office.  Thanks.

THE LORD'S PRAYER LENTEN BIBLE STUDY: The power and significance of the prayer Jesus taught.
All are invited to this 6-week in person study, led by Bill Eyman and Dan Newman, which will begin on Tuesday, March 8th from 7-8pm in the church parlor.  Books will be purchased from Christianbook.com TOMORROW.  Please let the church office know if you would like one.  Cost is $13.99 for a hardcover and $15.49 for a large print paperback plus shipping.  Also, transportation can be provided to and from the Bible study by calling the church office.
Most Christians know the Lord’s Prayer by heart. We pray it often, at different times and in different settings. We remember it as the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words, what we ask of God each time we pray it?
When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them this prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord’s Prayer to be a museum piece, framed and placed on a mantel or in a display case. It was Jesus teaching God’s people, through his disciples, how to pray.
In The Lord’s Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught, pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton guides us to really know—and really pray—the Lord’s Prayer. He explores each of its rich lines and their meaning in the Bible, illuminating what we ask of God and what we ask of ourselves through its words. And he teaches us how to use it as a pattern for our own prayer life.

MARCH MEN’S GROUP GET TOGETHER:
The Rockport Men’s Group will meet on Thursday, March 10th at 6:30 pm at the church for a potluck dinner. There will be a great meal; time for face-to-face fellowship and Dave Plachta will talk about the James Webb Space Telescope. Dave was involved in the technology selection for the cryocoolers used in the mission, which is key for the telescope optics. He saw the telescope during assembly and talked to several of the lead scientists of the mission. Come and enjoy this special time together!

BOOK CLUB:
Please join us on Monday, March 21st at 7pm in the church parlor.  We will be reading the book The Dead Key” by D.M. Pulley. This mystery/thriller fiction novel begins in 1998, and for years the old First Bank of Cleveland has sat abandoned, perfectly preserved, its secrets only speculated on by the outside world. Twenty years before, amid strange staff disappearances and allegations of fraud, panicked investors sold Cleveland’s largest bank in the middle of the night, locking out customers and employees, and thwarting a looming federal investigation. In the confusion that followed, the keys to the vault’s safe-deposit boxes were lost. In the years since, Cleveland’s wealthy businessmen kept the truth buried in the abandoned high-rise. The ransacked offices and forgotten safe-deposit boxes remain locked in time, until young engineer Iris Latch stumbles upon them during a renovation survey. What begins, as a welcome break from her cubicle becomes an obsession as Iris unravels the bank’s sordid past. With each haunting revelation, Iris follows the looming shadow of the past deeper into the vault—and soon realizes that the key to the mystery comes at an astonishing price. Hope to see you all on March 21st for fellowship and discussion!
