PASTORS MUSINGS:

I have been bathed in the Holy Spirit that abounds here at Rockport UMC. The spirit has blessed me to meet you in worship, work, music, ministry and more.

You may remember the hand and finger song about “here’s the church, steeple; open the door and see all the people.”

Thanks be to God we can gather in person for worship with vaccinations and safety protocols still in place.

Groups have been gathering as well. VBS was awesome, I got to meet some of the Youth. The Bible study has been a blessing. Men’s group has been nourishing. Early morning Service has been inspiring. Work projects like helping fix up someone’s property (see pictures below) and even inventorying the Child Care furnishings have been blessed in both practical and fellowship ways.

I look forward to more opportunities to share in ministry with you as a congregation, group and individuals.

I would like to host a Jamming for Jesus musical event. I would like to get a group to go to the Asian Lantern Festival at the Zoo. I also feel led by the Spirit to reach out to the atypical population since we share space with Abilities First.

I have invited Tim Rosenberger, a seminary graduate and Law/business student at Stanford University to preach on August 29th. I will be taking my first Sunday off then. I hope to stream it where I’m at because I expect it to be great. Tim is an awesome young Christian professional.

I have been invited to a bi-centennial celebration of a former church in Bucyrus October 10th. I asked Rev. Laurie Bruce to preach that Sunday.

I know Rockport UMC has a bi-centennial next year. I hope to enlist your support in planning a participation in that observance.

In the meantime let us put feet to our prayers and be about the work of the Lord.

Your Faithful Follower,
Pastor Don

ROCKPORT COMMUNITY
SERVICE PROGRAM:

Rockport UMC contacted the building departments of Rocky River and Fairview Park seeking to do God’s will by assisting senior homeowners who may lack the means to properly maintain their homes.  On Aug. 11, 18, & 25th, we helped an elderly woman named Maria, who lives on W. 215th street in Fairview Park.  This is a bungalow house that had a broken cement pad on its front porch, water leak issues in several windows, overgrown tree branches, and debris filled gutters.  The people who helped are: Dennis O'Neil, Pastor Don, Dennis Kay, Diamond Economy, Mike & Lynn Wilkenson, Andrew Allen, Nick  & Dave Plachta.  What a wonderful community service program Rockport has begun.  If you are interested in helping in future projects, please contact Dave Plachta at 440-829-3184.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

As a reminder, due to the COVID uncertainties with the Delta Variance, and in the spirit of caring for each other (especially the immunocompromised and our unvaccinated kids), Rockport's leadership has prayerfully decided to reinstate that all people, vaccinated or not, wear masks INDOORS and SOCIALLY DISTANCE.

BOOK CLUB

Please join us on Monday, September 20th at 7pm outside on the church patio.  We will be reading The Whole Life by Robert Seethaler.  The Whole Life is a tender book about finding dignity and beauty in solitude. An exquisite novel about a simple life, it has already demonstrated its power to move thousands of readers with a message of solace and truth. It looks at the moments, big and small, that make us what we are.  Hope to see you all on Sept. 20th for fellowship and discussion!
