ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

BOOK CLUB:
Our next book discussion will be on Wednesday, April 19th @ 7:00pm here at church.  The book we will be reading is “The Lincoln Highway” by Amor Towles. “In June, 1954, eighteen-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the juvenile work farm where he has just served fifteen months for involuntary manslaughter. With his mother long gone, his father recently deceased, and the family farm foreclosed upon by the bank, Emmett plans to pick up his eight-year-old brother Billy and head to California to start a new life. But when the warden drives away, Emmett discovers that two friends from the work farm have stowed away in the trunk of the warden’s car. They have a very different plan for Emmett’s future, one that will take the four of them on a fateful journey in the opposite direction – to New York City. Bursting with life, charm, richly imagined settings and unforgettable characters, The Lincoln Highway is an extraordinary journey through 1950s America from the pen of a master storyteller.” Hope to see everyone in April for fun, fellowship and discussion.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
While Pastor Don is having eye surgery and recovering from April 19-29th, please call the church office during office hours for any pastoral emergencies.  After office hours, please call Rev. Barbara Davis at 440-774-1660.  Thank you!

SAVE THE DATE:
Trustees are hosting a mulch spreading/outdoor clean-up party on Tuesday, May 23rd at 5pm.  All hands are welcome to help beautify Rockport as we begin to worship outdoors on May 28th!

LUNCH BUNCH:
Come join us on Wednesday, April 26th (please note date change) at noon for food and fellowship. Donations accepted for missions but no cost for lunch. Hope to see everyone for food fellowship and conversation.    Questions, Call Diana Leitch, 440-759-5980.

MEN’S GROUP:
The Rockport Men's Group will meet at the church on Thursday, May 11th at 6:30 pm for a potluck dinner. Jon Gray, Founder and Executive Director of Trials for Hope, will be there to talk about Trials for Hope.  Over the past eleven years, Trials for Hope has been a journey of witnessing poverty in many forms.  It isn’t just about not having enough to eat or living outside.  Poverty encompasses many aspects and perspectives: physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological. Hunger isn’t a class issue; it’s a hunger issue.  Come and enjoy this special time together and hear a very interesting presentation. Everyone is invited to hear Jon's informative presentation.

NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES SUNDAY:
The next special offering is Native American Ministries Sunday on April 23, 2023.  This offering is collected the third Sunday of Easter and funds urban ministries with Native Americans, scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist seminaries and annual conference Native American ministries. Envelopes for this special offering may be found by the treasure chest in the narthex.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE:
All are invited to journey through the bible beginning with Genesis.  This video study, led by Nancy Geyer, will be on Sundays from 9-9:45am.  You may go to lesfeldick.org to view and read this study if you are not able to attend in person or at that time.

COFFEE HOUR:
Please consider hosting coffee hour and sign-up on the bulletin board.  Fellowship is so important to the life of the church and why not have a little snack at the same time!

ALPHA BIBLE STUDY:  There will be a 30-minute planning meeting after church on April 23rd (lunch provided) if you are able to help in anyway.   Alpha began at the Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London England in 1977.  Millions of people worldwide have tried Alpha, and it has been translated into 112 different languages. Alpha is a great tool for introducing Jesus and the Church in a welcoming environment.  All of the materials used for Alpha are complimentary. Rockport Church will be hosting an Alpha Bible Study, starting Wednesday, May 10 from 6 -7:30 pm for eleven weeks. The format of Alpha is that there is a dinner served, short devotion time, view a video on the scripture, and then small group discussion.  If Alpha is successful, it should be totally welcoming to a person that has never stepped foot in a church! Alpha is a great resource to bring people to Church and to Jesus!  Sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.

MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS BLESSINGS!
