Rockport Updates: October 28, 2022

ROCKPORT HAPPENINGS!

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS NOV. 6:
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back!

ALL SAINTS DAY:
As we celebrate All Saints Day this year on November 6, 2022 at 10:00am, we invite you to recognize and remember the saints in your life.  After the lighting of the candles for members of the congregation who have transferred to the Church Triumphant, Pastor Don will invite those who wish to light a candle in memory of a departed loved one to come forward to the Chancel. Lighting a candle is a special way to remember the lessons and love shared with us by these beloved saints.  Hope to see you there!

UNITED METHODISTS ARE SUPPORTING UKRAINIAN REFUGEE FAMILIES:
United Methodist Churches are supporting Ukrainian refugee families in Lorain County where already there is a sizeable Ukrainian population. Avon, Belden, Grafton, and LaPorte UMCs and Wesleyan Meadows and Wesleyan Village are supporting seven families.
A host family from Henrietta UMC has welcomed a mother with a 12 year old son and a 2 year old daughter into their home.
Significant support has been received from individuals and congregations in the Firelands District to help in this effort. Vermilion Grace UMC has recently agreed to sponsor a family so now help from beyond the Firelands District is needed.
Vermilion Grace will sponsor a family that will live in a two bedroom duplex in Amherst. Rent and utilities will cost $1,200 a month. Church members are acquiring furnishings and household items to be ready to welcome a family. When the family arrives Vermilion Grace will provide food, personal items, transportation and other needs as they arise.

CHARGE CONFERENCE:
On Saturday, November 5th at 2:00pm at UMC of Berea, 170 Seminary St., Berea, OH. 44017, Rockport and other area churches will gather for Charge Conference.  Please let the church office know if you will be attending so we make sure we have adequate copies of paperwork for everyone.

KIDS & YOUTH FALL & ADVENT MINI MISSION PROJECT:
We are collecting hats, gloves, and scarves to go for the Take What You Need Cabinet all season, AS WELL AS, the Sister’s Haven Mission, in Cleveland, who is also pairing with Rocky River UMC.  Please leave them on the Christian Ed Table in the hallway, outside the Sanctuary! Thank You! Please be watching our Mini Mission Schedule each month!

WE NEED CABINET DONATIONS!
We need help replenishing our cabinet stock! If you are able to grab something off of our monthly list, we’d sure appreciate it!
There will be a bin underneath the Christian Ed table!

MEN’S GROUP:
The Rockport Men's Group will meet at the church on Thursday, November 10th at 6:30 pm for a potluck dinner.  Dennis O’Neil will talk about his work on FEMA recovery this summer. This will be a very informative presentation. Come and enjoy this special time together!

SPAGHETTI DINNER:

On November 12th we will have a spaghetti dinner from 4-8:00pm.  Volunteers are needed for food prep, servers, clean-up, bakers and drivers for Rockport's homebound. If you would like to volunteer to help in anyway, please call or email the church office or Lisa Kay or sign-up on the bulletin board. Dine-in or carry out meals, quarts, and Vegan Lentil Masala soup will be available. Proceeds from this event will go towards Outreach Mission projects.

BOOK CLUB:
Please join us on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 7:00pm in the church parlor for fellowship and discussion.  Bring a dessert or appetizer to share.  The book we will be reading is Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. “This profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.” These struggles are relatable for everyone. Hope to see you all on Nov. 16th for food, fellowship and discussion!

BIBLE STUDY:
Christianity and Comparative World Religions Bible Study highlights and guest speakers.  Be looking for information regarding an Advent Study in the near future!
