ALL CHURCH CONFERENCE

Rockport will have an All Church Conference via Zoom and in person (at the church) on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00 pm to be presided over by Dr. Bailey.  At this time the Trustees will present a motion to the membership of the church which, if approved, would authorize the trustees to move forward with selling the parsonage.  Here is a sample of the motion we will vote on:

"I move that the ___________United Methodist Church membership hereby acknowledges and empowers the duly elected church trustees of our congregation, to act upon our behalf and as our legally authorized representatives in the sale of the church parsonage. They are thus authorized to: choose a realtor, or sell ourselves, and enter into a contract to sell the parsonage; receive bids and negotiate a closing price and date; and to act as representatives of the church in all legal and contractual duties in order to complete the sale of this property."

Please see below for the zoom link for this important All Church Conference!

Rockport Community Service Program

This past week, four of us completed the final task at Maria’s house in Fairview Park.  The house was identified by the Fairview Park Senior Center and City Hall as needing repairs which could not be done by the homeowner.  Rockport UMC’s outreach goal was met, to serve our community by assisting elderly homeowners in the area.

(Philippians 4:13) I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

(Proverbs 14:23) Just as sloth is a deadly sin, living a lazy life will cause suffering and anxiety. It is healthy for the body and mind to work hard, serving God and others with our gifts from the Lord.

During service a few weeks back, a song was sung that fitted this project so well. Here’s the verse that hit me.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

I’m not sure why this project felt glorious.  I think it was both the accomplishment and the gift to a homeowner who was overwhelmed with her house.

I invite you all to join us on our next project, which is TBD.

I’d like to thank the participants, Andrew Allen, Diamond Economy, Dennis Kay, Dennis O’Neil, Mike Wilkenson, Lynn Wilkenson, Len Pariano, Don Krapps, and, of course, Nick Berardi.  We cut trees, cleaned gutters, painted porches, replaced a cracked cement stoop including replacing the bricks underneath it.  We mixed and set over 1300 pounds of cement.  We patched a rotted garage door and painted it.  When I read this back it seems improbable.  Yet we were clearly buoyed by the skills of Nick, the attitude of our crew, and the Good Lord.  I think we met the goal of Collossians.

Collossians
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Maria, the homeowner, thanked us all.  She is eternally grateful for this effort, which would never have happened without this church.

I am glad to be back at Rockport, with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

In His Grip, Dave Plachta

In early August we were tasked with dispersing the former Childcare assets and clearing Wesley Hall for use. Lynn Wilkenson and Pat O’Leary joined our team. We began clearing space and organizing furniture. Shortly after, Susan Shick, Marian Banno, Janet Eyman, Diane Hall and Diana Leitch began sorting and organizing toys and smaller items onto tables. Lynn began taking appointments from area childcare centers. Ann and Jim Romer sent out mailings, and called local Churches. Kira Holchin created our social media notice using photographs taken by Juanita Pariano. (See above) Nick and Tina Berardi, Diana Leitch, Marilyn Plachta, and Diane Hall gave us some great advice and ideas. Pat continued to reposition furniture, make deliveries, and made all our directional signs for the Rummage Sale. At the Rummage Sale our team was joined by Kelly Brown, Pastor Don Kraps, Debbie Bryant, Bev Cavanah, Lisa Kay, and Marilyn Plachta’s Mother. Mike and Lynn’s grandkids, Abbey and Charlie Uhler and their friend Elijah Hoole also joined us for the Rummage sale. It was great to see them along with Kelly as a core of young people helping out. Sara was a helpful source throughout. The Rummage Sale generated $2,225, and along with $8,496 in sales to childcare centers generated $10,721 for the Church. We are not done freeing Wesley Hall, but have made a great start and brought in some much needed finances for Rockport. Thank you for all the hard work and support.

Mike Wilkenson – Trustee/Director of Childcare Assets

COVID RECOMMENDATIONS:

As we worship together, we want to ensure that everyone is safe and remains healthy (especially the immunocompromised and our unvaccinated kids).  After meeting on Sunday, before Worship, it was decided that everyone is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO WEAR MASKS WHILE IN THE BUILDING AND TO SOCIALLY DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM OTHERS.

~~

WORSHIP WILL REMAIN OUTDOORS!

In keeping with ensuring everyone's safety, Rockport will continue to utilize its beautiful outdoor sanctuary for worship, as long as we can and as long as weather permits. The time will also remain at 10am.
Please dress accordingly.
