Why the name Stephen?
The name Stephen comes from St. Stephen, who was the first lay person commissioned by the apostles to provide caring ministry to those in need. (see Acts 6)
What does the logo mean?
The Stephen Ministry logo consists of a cross and circle, together with a broken person and a whole person.
The broken person stands behind the cross, symbolizing the brokenness in our lives.
The whole person stands in front of the cross because it is only through Jesus; His life, death on the cross, and resurrection that we, who are broken people, are made whole.
The circle is a symbol of God’s eternal and never-ending love for us.
I am giving you a new commandment,
that you love one another.
Rockport is grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Through our Stephen Ministry program, we offer one-to-one caring relationships so those who are hurting may receive the love and care they need.
Stephen Ministers provide care to persons who are bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated or facing other crisis or life challenges.
A Stephen Minister is a lay person who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care while walking beside a hurting person. They are supervised by and report to a Stephen Leader and pastor.
