Jesus...the Bread of Life
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
The next day…after feeding five thousand people with only two fish and five loaves of bread, the crowd was hunting Jesus down.
I say to you, you look for me, not because you have seen the signs, but because you ate bread and were satisfied. Work then, not for perishable food, but for the lasting food, which gives eternal life. This is the food that the Son of Man gives to you, for God has put God's seal on him.
Jesus is saying they saw food as food, and they were happy to get it, and they figure they can get all kinds of things from Jesus now, this miracle worker. Jesus is saying, "No, no. That's not what it was about." It really is a sign, Jesus wants them to realize, a sign which reveals who Jesus is. In essence, when you begin to feel hungry, he's saying look beyond that food that you ate the other day; see the sign. Food is important, but there is something much more vital to have.
I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me shall never be hungry, who believes in me shall never be thirsty. Jesus sustains his people so they need not hunger for love, freedom, comfort or peace. When we believe Jesus is the Son of God, we believe he provides everything we need when he knows we need it. Believers of Christ receive a promise of an eternal relationship with a loving God. Now doesn’t that sound like good bread to feed on?
At Rockport Church we currently offer 3 styles of worship. Each one crafted in a way that you may encounter the Bread of Life and given an opportunity to believe for yourself what that really means.
