Jesus is a Witness

Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

John 18:37

Recently some friends told me about a coffee house they had recently visited.  They spoke about how they had never experienced such a good cup of coffee before.  They shared how the owner brews the coffee to make it taste so good.  The coffee is guaranteed to be so flavorful that no cream or sugar is provided.  My friends witnessed to something amazing they had experienced.  They were excited to share it with others.

Jesus was a witness, too...

Perhaps you may have wondered, “Why did Jesus come?” Or, “What is the meaning of Jesus Christ?” Or, more personally, “What difference should this man make in my life? In my marriage, in my work, in my leisure, in my thinking, in my emotions?”

When he was on trial for his life Jesus spoke some words, which give an answer to this question. He said in John 18:37, "For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice."

And the truth?  What is that?  The truth is…God is love.  (1 John 4:8)

Jesus came to witness to that truth through his teachings and miracles…through his words and mostly through his actions.  You see, Jesus was with God, he knew God, and was a witness to the truth of who God is.  Jesus witnessed to this truth so we can come to experience it as well.  This is God’s deepest desire; that we accept the unconditional love God offers.

As people of God, we follow Jesus’ witness and example to share our own experiences of receiving God’s love and grace.  As we grow together at Rockport, we explore different ways in which we can express our transformational experience to each other and to the world.

Finding and experiencing a good cup of coffee is easy to share with someone else and where they may find it.  What holds us back from sharing the experience of God’s transforming love and grace and where it can be found?

Jesus was a witness.  Through his witness, and our faithfulness, we, and the world can be transformed.
